This Wonderful Lotus Elan + 2 S 130 Big Valve
Just 50280 miles!
Registered in January 1974
Registration No: UEC 859M
VIN No: 73121846L
MOT’d till March 2nd 2011
History file of invoices,mots etc
Finished in Goodwood Green Metallic with contrasting beige interior.
The car also comes with a host of spares.
History:
The last keeper a Retired design engineer owned the car for the past 11 years, in his ownership only used the car very sporadically to attend Lotus meets in that time.
The previous owners also used the car in a similar fashion this being reflected in the low mileage.
The car is showing 50,280 miles with Mot’s spreading back to February 1979 at that time the car was showing 39379 miles so this car in the last nearly 31 years has covered just 11501 miles!!
This is reflected in the chassis condition ( which is a Spyder replacement along with the spyder drive shaft conversion)
The chassis and driveshaft conversion was done in 1981 but as the vehicle has only been used in dry weather on high days and holidays is reflected in the condition,it looks like it was changed in the last 12 months!
Looking at the invoices it appears the chassis change took place during a major overhaul of the vehicle which included a full engine rebuild (invoice for this) and full re paint, new screen, carpets,Bumpers etc
The bill for the engine rebuild is dated at 14-06-1982 ,the mileage recorded on the Mot that I have for March 1981 is recorded at 47178 .
I have eight old Mots spreading over the post period until current ,so I have every reason to believe the engine has covered just 3280 miles since it’s rebuild and likewise the chassis replacement
Overall Condition of the car :
As Usual I shall be as Critical as I can (Please Read My feedback on classic cars sold )
Engine/Gearbox/Final Drive :
The twin cam is In excellent condition the engine pulls strong with excellent oil pressure and no overheating problems.
Due to little use maybe would benefit from a tune of the dellorto’s thats all,
The 3 rail shift gearbox is smooth and precise the final drive is quiet with no wind up or clonking.
Brakes/Suspension.
The Brakes pull up true and straight the car holds on the hand brake perfectly well, the suspension is excellent with no creaks or looseness.
Interior:
The seats are in excellent condition, they are a conversion on the original Seats and offer more comfort plus are fitted with a head rest and certainly enhance the cockpit environment.
Centre console ,door cards, Roof Lining,Crashpad are good, likewise the carpet covering.
The walnut Dashboard itself carries the patina of it’s age which in my opinion looks good reflecting the age of the vehicle.
I do have a brand new walnut dash for a +2 that I would be prepared to sell separately.
Electrics:
All major systems are working as per specification ,Just the ambient temperature gauge and the clock are not functioning ( most probably an earth as usual with a Lotus!)
Chassis:
As previously stated the car had a new chassis in 1982 and is in superb condition
Bodywork and Chrome work :
The paint colour really does suit the car and considering the vehicle was painted in base coat and lacquer 28 years ago it is in surprisingly good condition with good depth of shine, due to age there are some imperfections in the lacquer coat
But overhaul very presentable (I am as I said being highly critical )
Exhaust .
Stainless Steel ,Excellent.
Wheels and Tyres
The wheels are in good condition with no kerbing and the tyres themselves are excellent.
Overall Driving impressions
The Lotus Elan + 2 S
Has always been a great drivers car and all these years on it still is !
Having compliant but firm suspension, great turn in from the steering.
The Ford Corsair sourced gearbox is legendary and a joy to use, total precision just knicks through the gears no problem as for the wonderful twincam well it really is still iconic,
The car also offers comfort to support the performance and was a joy to drive (once I had removed my size 10 timberland boots! the pedal proximity is designed for heel and toeing)
The car shows superb agility throught the bends ,my personal view is ,the wider track and longer wheelbase over the little Elan makes the Plus to a very predictable platform and would certainly leave a lot of it’s modern day peers in it’s wake on a cross country A-B run
Conclusion :
So their you have it, a car with plenty of history lots of integrity and usable straight away and in these days of overweight bland accountant/saftey driven sports boxes, what a breath of fresh air, which ever angle you look at the Lotus +2 130s It is just sublime and as I said in the header, Is there really a prettier car? In my humble opinion, definitely not!!
I cannot think of a better way to enjoy classic motoring!
Bravo Colin Chapman!!
Good Luck with the Auction and Thanks for Looking.
Regards
Dave.
Please note: the cars I sell are “classic” cars and by nature and age are not of the reliability that is afforded to a modern car (apologies to the classic car enthusiasts for stating the obvious) but with all the best will in the world whilst I would love then to stay totally reliable, but being old (like myself! )They can breakdown and you should be aware of this, if you have any doubt about classic car ownership or these facts please do not bid on the car.
The car is as usual being sold with “No” Reserve and will not be advertised anywhere else during the Auction, there is No “Buy Now” price, to keep with the spirit of the Auction
It will run through to conclusion and the highest bidder gets the car!
Please Remember You Bid to Buy Not to Haggle.
Please note, The description of the vehicle is from my eyes and my opinion, you are warmly encouraged to view and inspect the car prior to bidding yourself , I will do my utmost to accommodate you. But once the auction has finished and if you are the winning bidder, you will be expected to conclude the transaction after being given this opportunity to inspect before the auction concludes. Please do not hesitate to call on : 07970383375 to arrange a viewing.
If the wining bidder is not UK Mainland based, it would be possible to deliver the car to a embarkation destination of their choice, once payment is received and the appropriate delivery tariffs have been met, it would be up to the wining bidder to organise the necessary ongoing transportation and paperwork..
Please note! with two previous bidders who have had successful bids on other classics I have sold and have been European mainland based, they did not complete the sale quoting, they did not realise the logistics for transportation to the European mainland
Please, Please, Please!
If you are based on the European Mainland and you are going to bid on the car, please make sure you have the means to transport to the European mainland, also please make sure before you bid, that if you intend to road use the vehicle it can be registered in your country.

Now for the boring bits, I only sell good quality classic cars and describe the cars as accurately as I can and sell with honesty and integrity (please read my feedback) I have had on now 12! occasions individuals being the successful bidders on cars and not fulfilling the auction terms so wasting my time and stopping a genuine person getting the car, So unfortunately I would be grateful if you could call Me on: 07970383375 or email before you bid to confirm your intentions are bonifide any bids placed without prior communication will be removed.
I will only honor a winning bid that has had prior communication with me , if you are planning on a last minute snipe bid please email you intention that you would like to bid beforehand.
Many thanks for your understanding.
The Jazz BLOG!
Well this weekend the long awaited start of the 2010 Grand Prix Season.
I think that this should be one hell of a season , with the past master “Shuey” donning his Helmet and returning to the fray, he is a beacon for all the “young guns” to go after .
With regard to his championship aspirations ,
In my humble opinion I do not think he can do it again.
I believe there is one man above all the rest who is focused on regaining the championship and that being a certain Lewis Hamilton and like the best of the champions over the years a true racer!
Back in September ,The chaps and Myself of the Bodenham and District Classic car Club decided to decamp for the night from our local meeting Place, The lovely Half Timbered Englands Gate at the village of Bodenham Herefordshire to the City of Hereford .
There we visited undoubtedly on of the best pubs not just in Herefordshire but Countrywide, “The Barrels”.
Owned and Run by renowned local award winning real ale Brewers ,Wye Valley Breweries whose Chairman Pete Armor runs a MGB Mk11 Roadster.
The pub and courtyard, which combines part of the old city walls, packed with students Bohemians and of course seasoned beer drinkers and campaigners for real ale !.
We have now decided that we shall alternate between The Englands Gate and the Barrells, a lovely run through the beautiful Herefordshire countryside and with the spring coming up wonderful in a classic!
